Switch 2 will include a new battery preservation feature

In the month following the official Nintendo Switch 2 Direct, we’ve gotten a drip feed of new details surrounding the upcoming system. While far from a game changer, the Switch 2 is set to include a much-welcome battery preservation feature – similar to that seen on other mobile devices.

Taking to their recently-released Nintendo Today app, the Switch maker offered a small titbit of new information on one of the Switch 2’s features. Listed as ‘Battery Charging Settings’, this feature allows you to choose to limit the device’s charging to 90% capacity in efforts to extend the system’s battery life over the long-term.

While certainly an appreciated feature, there remains concerns around the Switch 2’s total battery life even at 100% capacity – with the system stated to last between 2-6.5 hours.

For context, the original Nintendo Switch had a battery life of between 2.5-6.5 hours. This was then boosted to 4.5-9 hours with the refreshed base model as well as the OLED variant; marking a notable improvement over the original model and even more so the upcoming Switch 2.

As with the OG Switch, it’s possible that Nintendo might release a refreshed model with a more efficient chip leading to improved battery life. Until then however, if you are primarily a handheld player, you might want to keep this option disabled.
